Denim Dish – Trend Spotting
By admins | February 2, 2009

So, according to French Vogue the latest trend in denim is not really new at all, as is evident by these photos. The 80’s rocker look is back again, and by again we mean, didn’t high-waisted jeans come back last year? And didn’t we see a resurgence in acid wash and colored denim two years ago? For that matter, didn’t skinny jeans make a comeback over three years ago? We all loved the 80’s but how many times can we bring it back? When leg warmers and gummy bracelets reappeared after the millennium, it was refreshing, but the concept that “everything that is old becomes new again” is becoming, well, old! So what do you think, is this a hot new trend in denim? Or did Carine miss the boat on this one?

I think the mannish haircut will come back for women. That’s the inspiration I’d pull from these photos.

The fact that these trends keep making persistent appearances points to the fact that they’re on their way to becoming new norms, the new default silhouette.
Because as image conscious as hipsters are, they *don’t* go out and buy new clothes every season. They glom around certain shapes and stick with them and build on the aesthetic.
