Drug Testing Designers, WTF?

By admins | October 7, 2008

katemoss.JPG                  What’s the deal with drug tests as part of the interviewing/hiring process?  This is fashion, we are designing clothing not joining the army, operating heavy machinery, or applying for parole.  Plus doesn’t there seem to be something fundamentally wrong with drug testing designers?  In a way aren’t we artists, isn’t are job to be creative, free-spirited, edgy, trendy, young and hip?  And what artsy type or young hipster hasn’t tried a little something something? On the other hand aren’t we all adults and professionals, with experience, skills, and degrees, how we decide to spend our free time should be at our discretion.  Really, if you smoke a little weed on Saturday does that mean your ability to techpack yet another screen tee is going to suffer! As you may be aware several of the larger fashion corporations require drug testing such as Jones Apparel Group, Liz Claiborne, and the Gap.  If you have ever been to any of those testing places you’ll agree that it is a very humiliating, depressing, and unsanitary experience.  Lining up to pee in a cup, with a very shady looking crew of people in a sketchy area of town, was not what we went to college for!  Anybody else been through this?  Whats your opinion?
