A fashion is merely a form of ugliness so unbearable that we are compelled to alter it every six months. --Oscar Wilde

For the high-end fashionista:  New York Fashion Week is upon us once again.  All the glamour and glitz of the fashion industry is on display for the next week at Bryant Park.  The big shows give us all a taste of the best fashion has to offer; who can resist coveting all the couture parading down the runway?  With the recession looming large in everyone’s mind, designers have gone a bit lower key this year.  There are smaller shows, less extravagant after parties, and many designers like Betsey Johnson and Vera Wang have pulled out all together due to financial constraints.  To show during fashion week, costs six figures and that’s not even counting developing the clothing line itself,  so it is understandable that many labels are missing this season.  Even so, we look forward to this time of year and the inevitable inspiration it will bring to the market.  For those of you watching on TV, Full Frontal Fashion has been replaced by Video Fashion Daily on the NYCTV channel.  Today’s shows include, Yigal Azrouel, Charlotte Ronson, and Nicole Miller to name a few.  The full week’s schedule can be found here.  Enjoy!

For the budget fashionista:  How about some Alexander McQueen? What his $10,000 gowns not budget friendly enough for you? Well, try his new line McQ for Target! Yes, Target has landed another top designer to create an affordable, but fashion forward line at their price-point.  The renowned British designer is doing a limited edition line of casual wear, mostly knits, for women.  The line will have a neutral palette of black, grey, and white with funky trims and punk details.  McQ will debut in 250 Target stores in March, but for us lucky New Yorkers, McQueen arrives this weekend.  So spend some of your Valentine’s weekend shopping at St. John Center’s sneak peak at 330 West Street. Happy Shopping!
