Fashion Women as Gold-Diggers, WTF?
By admins | August 7, 2009
Sick, sick, sick! We came across this event geared towards women working in fashion and we’re literally stunned by what it says. While these soirées are not exactly new, this particular invitation instantly triggered our gag reflexes. The event hosted by Fashion Meets Finance is a way for women who work in fashion to snag a rich husband who works in finance. Because of course, the only way for a women to be fulfilled and successful is by marrying money (eye-rolling). And obviously the only way for men to make money (gag, Bear Stearns, gag) is to work in finance. Hmm, wonder what the women of finance think of these events?
This particular party is to celebrate the end of the recession and resolve some of the dating mishaps which may have occurred to single fashionistas in 2008. “The uncertainty caused panic which caused irrational decisions – there’s going to be a two year blip in the system where a hot fashion girl might commit to a pharmaceutical salesman.” Who writes this shit? Really, hot fashion girl; we’re grown educated women! Pharmaceutical salesman, really? What if hot fashion girl married a (gasp) teacher? Oh the horror!
But their tag line is what really gets us. “Invest in the future; feel confident in your destiny. Hold on. It will only be a couple more years until you can quit your job and become a tennis mom.” Excuse us, while we bash our heads against the wall and wonder how we wound up back in 1952. Is that Betty Friedan we hear turning over in her grave? And what about these finance men? Are they really that desperate for a hot piece of ass, that they’re willing to date such gold-diggers? Who actually attends these parties? We can’t imagine participating in such a belittling event. And no, we are NOT promoting this event. We actually held off on posting this until the date had passed. So let us know what you think of Fashion Meets Finance.

So glad you all agree. This sort of thing is just appalling.
Even worse is the shear amount of people that RSVPed. They even agreed to let the site publicly list their names, if they were approved or rejected, who they work for, and in some cases their salaries! Sad.

This is so moronic and offensive.

Actually went to this crazy event last minute. G/F’s fiance fwd the email and I need a meet up place to meet a former co-worker who is also in fashion. Naive me, I don’t think I read into what is being posted as . . . oh, I can network with other ppl in my industry there . . . We decided to check it out . . . always fun to ppl watch. No, we did not bother to RSVP though they asked for biz card which I told them I ran out. Mind you the event was in area of town fashion people would not be caught wandering around (that was a big clue). To cut it short . . . It had a decent crowd turn out . . .They tried with the big bouncer/red rope and photogs and what not . .. but it was a snoozer loser event. There was no one interesting. It was so high school-ish. The men were with their groups and the women were with there cliques. Each group awaiting some one from the other flock to come over. Amusing to witness but other than that was such a waste of time. I’ve had better time going out solo. We left after for dinner.

But don’t get your panies in a bunch . . . this sort of things happen all the time whether you put a label on it or not and it happens in ALL industry.

i meant not as happen all the time in gold digging (relating back to the main article) but sizing people up to want to meet them for all the wrong reasons.
