For Now
By admins | May 23, 2010
We have some sad news to share, which we have been putting off for some time now. Unfortunately, it our dear blog, 39th & Broadway has come to an end. The end has been in sight for a while now as myself, the founder and main writer, has just moved out of NYC (gasp). Yes, it is shockingly true, and while the move (for personal reasons) is only guaranteed for 6 months, that is still to long for me to feel authentically able to continue this very local NYC blog. Also, due my new location and career changes my schedule will likely not permit the attention to blogging that 39th & Broadway truly deserves. It is incredibly hard to leave the Garment Center and the difficulty of continuing to work in fashion design outside the area is slowly becoming a reality. But leaving NYC as a home is even more heartbreaking.
What started as a small personal blog to be an outlet for a couple Garment Center designers, morphed into a much larger website with a more diverse platform then we could have ever anticipated. This blog has proven to be more of a challenge and yet far more rewarding, than ever imagined. Of course much of this is due to you, our dear readers, who have provided endless support and feedback along the way. Without you this blog likely would have ended long ago. So thank you for being there day in and day out. Also, the fashion blogger community that has embraced us and inspired us, we are forever indebted to all of you. Finally, we would like to thank all the many contributors who over the last few years have shared with all of us their thoughts and feelings, advice and experience, on living and working in the New York fashion industry. It is all your insider information and personal stories, that made this fashion blog unique, so thank you all.
So for now, this is goodbye but who knows what the future holds. Perhaps we will be back, or perhaps a new blog with a new perspective will develop. For now we will just wait and see how it all plays out. Over the next week or two we will put up a post/page linking many of our top articles and useful industry pieces in a way easy for our readers to navigate. Since much of what we have written is timeless, and since many of you may not have read our older pieces, we will try to get up some sort of comprehensive resource page. We also hope that you will continue to support the efforts to save the Garment Center and will place links and resources for that as well on the top of our site.
We hope you have all enjoyed 39th and Broadway as much as we did, and perhaps learned a little something along the way. Again our deepest thanks to all of you, and a reluctant, goodbye…..For now.

No, no, no, I can’t believe it! I too really hope you reconsider and continue on blogging shortly. Seriously I love this site, it is the only fashion media place that really tells it like it is, not the Bravo version of the fashion industry. I love all the stories and can so totally relate to a lot of the bullshit you that goes on behind the scenes. Whatever you decide to do, thank you for this site!

Aww this is sad news indeed! Your unique perspective and voices shall be sorely missed. You always had a clear opinion to express and it will be sad to see such a well-written blog end. I hope you’ll come back to the blogging world one day!

Oh no! Why not have someone take over till you (if you) get back to it. Stacy at taffetadarlings could do it!

Thanks for all of your informative and unique posts over the last couple of years. Your perspective and creative writing has truly been a invaluable asset in getting the voice of the garment center heard. I thank you, and I will never be able to replace my daily fix of 39th and Broadway.

This is incredibly sad. Bummer. I agree with the above – you have a clear, neutral, informative voice and use it for advocacy.
And just when I was hoping you’d explain those weird “wholesale” stores near 8th and 36th that seem to have “regular” people shopping in them all the time, too!
May 24th, 2010 at 7:22 pm
oh no… i remember talking to you about this back at nyfw. while i understand…i do hope you’ll continue blogging. you’re perspective is so unique and i love reading what you have to say..
please do let me know if/when you return, the blog world will surely miss you.

I’m so sad, you guys invited me to contribute a post last year and were really wonderful exposing the truth of the fashion industry and I could relate to all of you since I know what this industry is like. I also understand that the fashion world is changing. I wish you the best and thanks for such a great blog, I’m sad but I’m hopeful that you guys will be back and I’ll be here waiting :)

Just echoing everyone else’s comments, I have really enjoyed reading your blog- your perspective and insights have really made me think about the fashion industry and my place in it. I especially enjoyed your recent post about fashion sellouts- so on point! Anyway, best of luck with your future plans!

Awww thanks everybody! This was not an easy decision to make. I really appreciate the kind words and all of your support over the years. I truly wanted to delete this post the minute I published it, but I know it is the right thing to do, at least for now.

Awww, bummer! I just discovered this blog recently, and became an instant fan. I hope you can find someone to fill in for you for a while. At the very least, please maintain the site so we have access to your archives – I’m sure more than a few of us would be happy to donate for your hosting fees.
Best of luck in your new situation.

June 1st, 2010 at 12:40 pm
^^I agree! But you know that :) I’m also really curious about your new design life outside the city – a little 39th & Off Off Broadway?! But I also understand the move and all is a huge change and challenge. Here’s to hoping we’ll see you again in 6 months or so.
And thanks for all the fabulous insight to the real fashion world.

I am quite literally in tears! I hadn’t stopped by in a little while and now I’m visiting to find the blog has come to an end. I feel like staging a warm protest as they do when a favourite show is being cancelled. Well, it’s hard to accept but thank you for all the wonderful insider info on the NYC garment industry, intelligent commentary and insightful designer interviews. It was uniquely interesting fodder for a thinking fashion follower like myself.
I’d like to know more about your new position.
June 15th, 2010 at 1:31 pm
You guys always told it like it is… And since I’ve switched careers into something related to the industry, I feel like I’ve lost a mentor and partner… Good luck with you where you go…
