Freakin Celebutante Fashion Lines

By admins | January 23, 2009

 celebs
It is enough already, with the celebrities, reality stars and socialites launching their own clothing lines.  Many of you have probably heard by now that Kira Plastinina has filed for bankruptcy only 7 months after opening her first U.S. store.  The Russian socialite, whose millionaire father, decided that buying a 16 year old her own retail chain was a good idea, is suffering the consequences now.  Who could have foreseen the flaw in this plan?  Well, us for one, as we wrote about in “Kira Plastinina“, we knew that a successful fashion venture needs more than just a name and money behind it.

It is astonishing the way people with money and fame believe that, if they have fashion sense they should go into the clothing business.  Or even worse, when celebrities, who use stylists to dress themselves, believe that because they are beautiful and famous we all want their name embroidered on our behinds.  Landing in InStlye magazine as best dressed, or coming from a family with money does not mean you should have your own label.  Clothing lines should come from the professionals, designers, and manufactures who are qualified in what they do.  This is why we’ve seen so many of these celebutante labels go bankrupt in the last few years.  When you see a movie co-staring Ralph Lauren and Betsy Johnson, or when Vera Wang wins an Oscar for best screenplay, then it’s time to start shopping the Paris Hilton, Lance Armstrong, Scartlett Johanssen, and Heidi Montag clothing lines.  So for now, celebrities please, please, leave the designing to the professionals.

I love your blog, this article is like a sigh of relief for me to read, I have been really uncomfortable myself with all the celeb so called labels. Good point too about Lindsay Lohan getting this job with Ungaro when talented, disciplined people are desperate for opportunities. I look forward to reading more interesting posts from you!
