Sadly, I have been trying to find a pattern maker to create a bridesmaid dress for me and my sister, and have gotten nowhere. I have all the photos and information. How do you go about finding someone willing to take on such a job?

Hi,

Thank goodness I found this blog. I am an 'old fashioned | manual | on the table | designer/pattern maker who missed the shift, so to speak, as I had been working for myself, by myself for the past 18 years.

What I shock I had, when I finally came out of my cacoon a few months ago.

I have been asking myself the question over and over again......what do I do now and where to I go?

I moved from a less fashionable state to the state of fashion thinking I would find what I was looking for, and somehow by some miracle I could do a part time course in Gerber course, work for a Clothing Manufacturer for a while, learn how to do size specs, measurement verifications, illustrator, loading information into seams..........and all will be fine.........now I find myself at a loose end, considering doing another Diploma in Clothing Technology and Design, after the initial one 30 years, hoping this will somehow open some doors.

I too pick up few freelance manual pattern making jobs here and there, mainly for start up businesses...........and yes, it's hard to keep ones mouth shut when you know the possible pitfalls, as you have gone them yourself.

I would really welcome some feedback from other 'old school' pattern/pattern makers..........oh, and yes I have worn many hats over 20 years ago:

And they will never know how a real garment industry is suppose to look like. As per star-ups a have a few words don't start up anything useless you have a lot o money to waste, time, energy and a good recovery plan I Started up my own company call DRIPGEAR.COM with garments to loss weight as you can sweat a lot while working out something like a sauna suit concept, with tank tops , pant, jcks etc. but more fashionable and that cost me my marriage,an arm and a leg to produce if any body needs advise on how to start or not a company i can give it to you for free just write to me at DRIPGEAR.COM AND I DON'T MEAN TO DISCOURAGE NOBODY just to let you know the ropes. Gook Luck and thank Laura you are so honest....thanks

I am from a cushion factory in China, currently, we are seeking for an R & D supplier to provide us a solution for minimize the size of the cushion. Since the cushion occupy a lot of the space during the shipment, if the cushion can be “suppressed”, it can save a lot of the shipment space and even save the warehouse space from the wholesaler and retailers. So, If you or you know any chemical engineers who can help of providing such solution, please kindly contact us at info@rank-ad.com we are available to discuss it with you.

Great info, she gives a real good perspective. Tech design is the future, its everything rolled into one.

I thought its so funny about the stay at home moms and childrens clothing, what IS up with that? So many out there, and not that special but online they complain about every little thing!

LaRhea Pepper of the Organic Exchange said wisely and simply that we can hang separately or we can all hang together. Hanging together is far more powerful not to mention more fun! Thank you for continuing to share this 39th and Broadway! Thank Nolcha and Oriana! Thank you Laura!

You know, I have to tell you, I really enjoy this blog and the insight from everyone who participates. I find it to be refreshing and very informative. I wish there were more blogs like it. Anyway, I felt it was about time I posted, I?ve spent most of my time here just lurking and reading, but today for some reason I just felt compelled to say this.
