Munch at Maoz

Tired of the everyday lunch choices at Pergola, Metro, Pret, and Europa? Well, we decided to try something new suggested by a co-worker called Maoz Vegetarian.  Maoz is the fashion district’s falafel go-to, quick-service restaurant located on the corner of 40th and 7th Ave.  For those who are not familiar with the Maoz chain, they specialize in providing falafel sandwiches in either a salad form or in a homemade pita packed with fresh, healthy, vegetarian toppings.

We decided to go there for a late lunch, around 1:30, knowing they were notorious for being extremely busy.  But that didn’t help because the line was out the door regardless of the time.  Thankfully, the line moved rather quickly considering only two guys were manning the register and the falafel station.  We ordered falafel sandwiches in their delicious freshly baked pitas, which was quite affordable at a little over 6 bucks.  The falafels were just recently fried from the steam, and crispiness of the falafels balls, yummy!  Plus their salad bar had every topping you could imagine for a falafel sandwich. People walked out with serious toppings overflowing their sandwiches. There was also the choice of ordering their Belgian fries, which looked really delicious, but quite honestly the sandwiches was filling enough.

The location is pretty casual and convenient, but extremely small so likely plan to bring your falafel back to the office.  They do have minimal seating for those who want to sit on a bench and people-watch.  Or we would highly suggest going to Bryant Park and eating there instead, especially if the weather is nice.  Overall, if you want a cheap, quick, and yummy vegetarian spot for lunch, this is it!

This place is awesome and I’m not a fan of healthy or vegetarian food but the falafel is great and the fries amazing! You are right though it gets really crowded at lunch.

Ha ha — I’m like Swifty — not a fan of vegetarian or healthy food but I do love falafel, even though it makes me think of Bill O’Reilly: http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/1013043mackris16.html

after all that grease i had build up in my stomach from being at parsons and having no time for a proper meal, pret has been the only healthy food place around school.

but pret also burns a hole in my pocket.

thank god for maoz!! by the way i need a shot of their fresh orange juice everyday. i wonder how much a machine like that would cost. i want one. haha!
