NYC Port Authority, Fashion Hot Spot?
By admins | March 27, 2009

The Fashion Center Business Improvement District, the people responsible for saving the Garment Center and for that funky little kiosk under the button and needle, have a new project on the way. They have teamed up with the Times Square Alliance and the NY Port Authority to create a 2500 square foot exhibition space for fashion designers and artists. The vacant space in the ground floor of the Port Authority will host rotating designers and provide a platform to showcase their works. To make this project accessible for young indie designers, they will only be charged for the utilities plus a monthly rent of just one dollar! According to Barbara Randle president of the Fashion Center BID, “We’ve always wished that we had a venue for showcasing the design talent that comes out of this district.” This is a fabulous opportunity for Garment Center designers and will also bring more tourists dollars and consumers to the neighborhood.
