Oscar Fashion 2010
By admins | March 7, 2010
Tonight is the night, the stars come out, the Red Carpet is unrolled and fashion takes center stages (oh, and movies too). But come on, how many of us watch just for the fashion? The gowns, the glitz, the glamour – this is what many people picture when you say, fashion. Certainly the average fashionista does not think, techpacks, patterns, sourcing, but rather thinks, evening wear, celebs, diamonds, Hollywood, and all the magic of the Red Carpet.
We suspect many fashion designers and industry professionals, got sucked into the allure of the fashion industry while watching the Academy Awards as children. The Oscars is the night that high fashion shines and these gowns are often responsible for inspiring (inspiring = good, knocking-off = bad) other designers and brands. The colors, textures, draping, and jewelry that are shown tonight will greatly influences what will be in stores shortly. If Jessica Alba walks the red carpet in a one-shoulder pink bubble dress tonight, you can be sure every department store will have a one-shoulder pink bubble dress in their Prom department this spring.
To get you in the mood for the big show, we found this excellent slide-show from LIFE magazine of classic 1950’s Oscar moments. Click here to see the full set and see our favs below.
Lately the Red Carpet has lost a bit of the “wow” factor as celebrities have exchanged their unique styles in favor of wearing a stylist’s picks. While ensuring a level of taste and preventing some disasters (Demi Moore & her biker shorts) stylists have also reduced individuality (Cher, Bjork & her swan dress) and of course, they have also subjected us all to the Rachel Zoe Project.
We are hoping tonight to be inspired and fall in love with fashion all over again. Will you be watching? Who are you looking forward to seeing?
Don’t forget to check back, right here in this post for our Oscar updates, plus photos of our best and worst dressed!
*Update 6:55 – Love Elizabeth Bank’s Versace gown, the whole look is stunning. Giuliana Rancic, eat something! Vera Farmiga, love the color, love the technique, hate the dress, totally overpowers her. Sigourney Weaver looks lovely but a bit Christmas gifty.
*Update 7:12 – Sandra Bullock looks gorgeous(hair, make-up) but not loving the dress, it looks a bit showy and not flattering. Poor Sandy can barely walk! Diane Kruger looks so modern and fresh, definitely a favorite look for us. Amanda Seyfried looks like a beautiful ice queen, adore the funky bangles. Faith Hill, oy, the goth look with a spider web bag? Not feeling it. Miley Cyrus looks horrific, a bustier top? And why must she always slouch and chomp gum?
*Update 7:23 – Sarah Jessica Parker, WOW, over the top, fashion forward, Chanel of course, and we adore it! Charlize Theron, what is she thinking? It’s like scary taffeta breast plates attacked her.
*Update 7:38 – Matt Damon, George Clooney, Jason Bateman all yummy! Queen Latifah not a flattering fit, but a beautiful color, although her hair seems orangish, right? Looks like Meryl Streep brought it this year, no more frumpy Meryl, she went glam and old Hollywood. JLO what happened? The Ice Capades have come to the Oscars.
*Update 7:55 – Demi Moore, gorgeous. Gabby Sidibe not so much. Does anybody else want to know why Jay Manuel and his frosted tips are giving fashion advice? Ugh!
*Update 8:13 – Cameron D looks stunning, the gold is just perfection. Penelope Cruz, how can we look like you? Jake Gyllenhaal, grrrr.
Enjoy the Show!

Oooh darling, you all are too good. I agree with all the calls, especially J-Lo, someone mentioned her as best dressed and I had to set them straight. She was a nightmare as was Mariah, but what’s new there. Thanks for the reviews, love!

Missed this year’s show. Hope they didn’t scale back to reflect the economy like they do sometimes. That drives me crazy! Fashion is a chance to escape, especially at the Oscars.

Hello! This is kind of off topic but I need some help from an established blog. Is it very difficult to set up your own blog? I’m not very techincal but I can figure things out pretty quick. I’m thinking about creating my own but I’m not sure where to begin. Do you have any ideas or suggestions? Cheers

Hey there would you mind stating which blog platform you’re using? I’m planning to start my own blog in the near future but I’m having a hard time choosing between BlogEngine/Wordpress/B2evolution and Drupal. The reason I ask is because your design and style seems different then most blogs and I’m looking for something unique. P.S Sorry for getting off-topic but I had to ask!
