Piazza de Broadway?
By admins | May 26, 2009

Welcome back to the work week grind after a gorgeous holiday weekend here in NYC! So, in-case you haven’t noticed, Broadway has received its long awaited overhaul this weekend. We first wrote about the city’s plan to make Broadway into a more pedestrian friendly zone here. But we must admit even then it was hard to believe it would really happen. Broadway from 34th street Herald Square up to 35th street and the Times Square area from 42nd to 47th are being turned into a virtual Piazza. Just in time for summer we have more usable outdoor space and less sidewalk traffic! The city plans to keep this up until the end of the year and then re-examine it’s effect on car traffic before making a decision on the plans finality. We are actually pretty excited about this, and would love for it to expand the full length of our neighborhood, with maybe a Martini bar in the middle! Ok, maybe that’s not realistic but we can dream…. so what do you think of the redesign?

Ha ha love the martini bar idea. Can we enclose 35th to 41st as a tourist free zone!

i am so excited about this. and i agree with berry g. NO MORE TOURISTS PLEASE~!!! nothing annoys me more than the tourists at times square! i mean, there really isn’t even anything to see there. i go to parsons right in times square and i can’t even tell you how many times i’ve seen tourists taking pictures of the super ugly parsons building (the result of watching too much project runway i’m sure). even funnier – when they ask me to take a picture with them as a parsons student. HA!
in any case, at least it’ll ease some traffic in the area and people can be a little less stressed and i won’t have to keep bumping into large tour groups who crowd the sidewalk when i’m running around with my huge bags! :D

Berry & Glida – Yes, but the tourists do bring in money to our city! It would be great to have a tourist lane like the new bike lanes, for all the slow moving, fanny pack wearing, tourists to wander in.
Eyeliah -Thanks sweetie!

hahaha, tourist lanes, now there’s a great idea.
I think the dead zone between the two northern plazas should be all car-free, and yes, lined with bars and restaurants! Ah, dreams..
