A fashion is merely a form of ugliness so unbearable that we are compelled to alter it every six months. --Oscar Wilde

Purely Ethical Fashion

“Going Green”, “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle”, and “Shop Local”, are common phrases in the fashion industry today.  While we hear a lot about being environmentally and ethically conscious in our designing and shopping, we don’t actually see much of it.  Often these sentiments are used as a marketing tool or gimmick with little else behind them.  And while there are several, often smaller labels, who take ethical fashion to heart there are just not many platforms for them.  So we were very pleased to see the success of last month’s Pure London Spring/Summer 2010 fashion show.

The Pure Fashion Show is a brilliant event that focuses on ethical fashion brands.  Their latest runway show featured over 900 exhibitors from around the world.  The designers and companies featured were all either fair trade, organic, or sustainable.  The event also included seminars hosted by the Ethical Fashion Forum to discuss the future of environmentally friendly fashion and its integration into the mainstream apparel industry.  Check out the photos below to see how fashion can be fabulous yet have a conscious at the same time.
