Sewing Challenge for the Eco Fashionista

Happy Earth Day everybody!  With all the talk about going green, reusing, recessionistas, and DIY we thought this would be a great project you today.  The people over at SANS are making it possible to snag this super hot jacket for only $20 and a bit of elbow grease.  Basically, you download the pattern and directions from their site and recycle some fabric to create an original piece.  Don’t worry if your a novice at the sewing machine, their styles aren’t overly complex. All you need is some mid-weight rigid woven fabric and you’re on your way.  For those of you industry professionals, we know you have boxes of old sample yardage stashed around the office, here’s a great way to put it to use before somebody just chucks it all.  The other week we challenged you to embrace fashion hand illustration once again, this week how about digging out that sewing machine you haven’t used since fashion school and give it a try.  For more information check out the SANS website here.

Thanks so much for this, what a great idea, I just may give it a try. I use to love sewing but haven’t been able to find the time in forever!

Love SANs but don’t know if I can bring myself to get home from work and then work some more. Its sad but when fashion becomes your job things like sewing, shopping etc.. can lose their fun factor.
