Tom Ford’s Directorial Debut

By admins | January 12, 2010

In case you have been living under an unfashionable rock these days we must remind you that Tom Ford’s new movie, A Single Man is out.  Ever since Tom Ford left as Gucci’s head designer, he has spoken about directing a film.  Well, the famed and the notoriously sexy designer has done it, and not only that, he has done it well and with style.  When Harvey Weinstein bought the rights to the film, rumor has it he personally guaranteed that this movie would win a best director or best picture Oscar.  The movie has already received much critical acclaim and looks to be a shoe in for an Oscar nom.

The transition from designer to first time film director was not an easy one nor was it quick. It took Tom five years to get this film made, but his passion for this project is undeniably what makes the movie so successful.   The film has a highly stylized look, as seen in the preview above.  So for all you Mad Men fans out there, Tom Ford’s 1960’s LA based drama is right up your alley.  A Single Man tells the story of Christopher Isherwood, a gay man in crisis during the Kennedy era, played by the brilliant and lovable Colin Firth.  Juliana Moore, a personal favorite who we just adore, also stars in the film with a to-die-for 60’s wardrobe.  So, now that all of the holiday events are over, check out Tom Ford’s fashionably fabulous movie, A Single Man.

Been reading mixed reviews about the direction, but I’m sure the visuals are amazing. Just looking at Colin Firth makes me want to cry, too.
