I WORKED IN THE GARMENT DISTRICT MY WHOLE ADULT LIFE. I WAS THE HEAD BOOKKEEPER FOR A COAT MFG. AT 247 WEST 37TH STREET. I LOVED IT. IT WAS THE GREATEST PLACE TO WORK. HAVE WONDERFUL MEMORIES OF MY DAYS THERE.. SO SAD TO SEE IT ALL GONE. THE PERIOD I WORDED THERE WAS FROM THE EARLY FIFTIES TO THE LATE 80′S.
TOO BAD IT IS ALL GONE.

Great article on the historic aspects of the garment center. The 1920s architecture is rich with detail. Establishing it as a historic district allowing tax credits for maintainence with go a long way in preserving the district.
